Why I wrote Men in Bras
Updated: Jul 9

People often smile when they hear the title Men in Bras. They've always laughed and showed true interest when they heard I made bras for a living. That's exactly what I always hoped for and was inspired by. But beneath the great title is a story and an industry about real people. It's about family, ambition, friendship, innovation, and the courage to believe in something that others cannot see.
For more than forty years, I worked designing, creating and producing bras. During that time, I had the privilege of meeting extraordinary people - Designers, pattern makers, seamstresses, executives, salespeople, administrators, and yes, Models. It's been these peoples dedication and creativity that helped shape an industry that most people take for granted.
As years passed, I realized their stories deserved to be told.
While Men in Bras is a work of fiction, the world it portrays is inspired by real experiences, real emotions, and the remarkable spirit of New York's garment industry in 1959. It was a time of innovation, changing traditions, and endless opportunity for those willing to work hard and take a chance.
This is a story about an industry making product for woman that was almost 100% run by men. I tell a story of how a strong, smart and capable young woman was able to break into this mans world.
At it's heart, this novel isn't about bras. It is about ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things. It's about loyalty, love, perseverance, second chances, and the relationships that define our lives. And it's about experienced people willing to mentor and take a chance on the young and green.
My hope is that readers come for the unusual title, but stay for the unforgettable characters.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
